South Cerney is best used as decorative gravel is ideal for driveways, paths and borders or as ground cover on borders and rockeries. Naturally quarried, this product results in slight variations in formation, size, colour, or shape, providing a rustic feel to any landscaping project.
The South Cerney Gravel is a decorative, oolitic limestone gravel that comes in a mix of cream, brown, yellow, and beige hues. Popular for its aesthetic appeal, it is also practical for use on driveways and paths, available in 20mm and 10mm sizes.
Also known as Thames Beige and Oxford Stone, South Cerney stone is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a Cotswold stone. The colour looks great next to red brick houses. Due to its rounded shape, it is easier and kinder to walk on bare feet than on other stones. It is also suitable for animals to walk on or over. There may be a need to top up South Cerney a little more frequently than gravel bases based on flint.

Sharp sand, also known as concreting, coarse, or grit sand, is distinguished by its larger particles and gritty texture compared to building sand. It is often used in construction settings, serving as a foundation layer for driveways, patios, and artificial grass. Typically laid beneath hardcore or MOT, it is then compacted to create a smooth, level surface. Sharp sand is also highly versatile, used in making screeds, renders, and concrete, as well as in improving soil drainage when mixed with peat and compost for horticultural applications.
In contrast to other types of sand, sharp sand is particularly robust and less flexible. Its low concentration of silt and clay gives it excellent free-draining properties, making it an ideal choice for foundation layers in block or patio paving and various landscaping projects. One can easily distinguish sharp sand from softer sands by its coarser texture; it won't mould into shapes like soft or building sand, which is more compactable.

The sublayer for road surfaces and pathways is crushed gravel stones from MOT Type 1. As a hard-wearing, stable layer of gravel, it creates a smooth surface before sharp sand applying asphalt, concrete, shingles or blocks paving. When compacted, the fine mixture ensures minimal voids in the sublayer.
MOT Type-1 is also good for creating a solid foundation for your project. Also ideal for laying patios, driveways and artificial grass, as well as many other domestic projects. It also meets the requirements of the Department of Transport specification for highway works.

What is grab hire?
Our grab hire service works with your specifications and budget in mind.
Hiring a grab lorry will make it easier to move and dispose of large amounts of materials and waste that would otherwise be quite heavy and time consuming to get rid of. Our friendly and skilled workers will choose the right grab lorry to suit your needs and will advise you every step of the way!
What materials can a grab lorry carry?
Our grab lorries can carry a range of materials:
Inert muck - soil, chalk, clay, rubble, concrete etc.
Green waste such as grass cuttings, trees, hedges and clippings, branches and bushes
Other mixed waste including glass, plastics, leather, wood, metal, rubber, ceramics, furniture pieces and similar materials
Aggregates
Recyclable materials like clean concrete and rubble - bricks, paving slabs and bits of tarmac can also be collected and recycled
Ensure the different materials are in separate groupings when they are ready to be picked up.

What is muck away?
Muck away is when materials and waste are removed from residential or commercial premises. This enables the construction site to be kept clear, especially when the type of construction produces a lot of waste material.
How much can a gab lorry carry?
The amount a grab lorry can carry will depend on the size of the lorry. Most grab lorries can carry between 8 to 16 tonnes, as the maximum weight is often 32 tonnes - the grab lorry weighs about 16 tonnes when empty. 16 tonnes is equivalent to about 3 skip containers, so that’s plenty of space to carry heavy loads!
How long will it take to load a grab lorry?
It can take as little as 15 minutes to load the waste into the grab lorry if the materials are in an easy position to collect. Ensure the waste is left in a wide-open space away from tree branches and other things that could make it difficult for the grab lorry to manoeuvre around.
If the waste and materials aren’t prepared to be collected, loading the grab lorry could take much longer. This is why you should ensure your waste is in a good place for the grab lorry to collect it so it can take as little time as possible to load.
Can a grab lorry reach very far?
With the included attachments, a grab lorry can typically reach 5-8 metres.
